Anxiety Therapy in Cincinnati

For overthinking, panic, perfectionism, and a mind that won't slow down.

If your mind won't stop racing, if you're exhausted from trying to hold everything together, from rehearsing conversations that haven't happened yet, from carrying a low hum of dread you can't quite name, you're in the right place.

Anxiety isn't a character flaw. It's your nervous system doing what it learned to do to keep you safe. But when that protective wiring starts running the show, when it keeps you up at night, pulls you out of moments that should feel good, and makes everything feel like it's one misstep from falling apart, it stops being protection and starts being a cage.

You don't need to white-knuckle your way through this. Therapy can help.

What Anxiety Actually Looks Like

Anxiety doesn't always look like panic attacks. Sometimes it's quieter than that. Sometimes it looks like:

A mind that won't stop running through worst-case scenarios. Perfectionism that keeps you stuck, afraid to start something unless you can do it perfectly. A body that holds tension, tight jaw, shallow breathing, stomach in knots, without any obvious reason. Saying yes to everything because saying no feels too dangerous. Avoiding the things you actually want because the fear of failing is louder than the desire to try. Replaying conversations in your head, scanning for what you might have done wrong. Functioning well on the outside while quietly falling apart on the inside.

If any of this feels familiar, it's worth knowing: this is treatable. Not with quick fixes or breathing exercises alone, but with real, sustained therapeutic work that gets underneath the patterns and into the roots.

Our Approach to Anxiety Therapy

We don't believe in one-size-fits-all therapy, and we don't believe anxiety is something you just learn to manage on the surface. At Lumenso, we work with the whole system, mind and body, to understand why your anxiety exists, what it's protecting, and how to create real, lasting change from the inside out.

Our therapists draw from several evidence-based modalities, tailored to what fits you:

  • Anxiety often shows up as a part of you that's been working overtime to keep you safe. IFS helps you understand that part with curiosity and compassion rather than fighting it. When you learn what the anxiety is protecting, usually a younger, more vulnerable part of you that carries fear or shame, the system begins to settle on its own.

  •  ACT helps you stop trying to control or eliminate anxiety and instead learn to move toward the things that matter to you, even when anxiety is present. It's about building a life guided by your values rather than your fears.

  • If your anxiety is rooted in past experiences, events that wired your nervous system for threat, EMDR helps process those memories so they stop running the show in the present.

  • Jungian approaches explore anxiety through the lens of the unconscious, including the parts of ourselves we've pushed aside or haven't yet met. This work invites a deeper relationship with the inner world, helping clients understand the symbolic and psychological roots of what feels like relentless worry or dread.

  •  Not the Instagram version. Real, practical mindfulness that strengthens your capacity to be with difficult emotions without being consumed by them.

Every person's system is unique. We meet you where you are and work with what's true for you not a script.

Who We Help

Anxiety shows up differently for different people. We work with adults navigating:

  • High-functioning anxiety: You're successful, capable, and nobody would guess you're struggling. But underneath the performance, you're running on fumes.

  • Social anxiety:  It's not shyness. It's the dread before, the replaying after, and the constant self-monitoring in between.

  • Panic:  The sudden waves that come out of nowhere and make you feel like something is seriously wrong with your body.

  • Perfectionism:  The impossible standards, the procrastination that comes from fear of failure, the exhaustion of never being satisfied with yourself.

  • Health anxiety:  The spiral of symptoms and searches and "what ifs" that keeps you tethered to fear about your body.

  • Workplace anxiety:  The Sunday dread, the imposter feelings, the sense that you're always one mistake away from being exposed.

  • Anxiety in LGBTQ+ individuals:  When minority stress, internalized messages, and identity-based experiences add layers to an already overloaded nervous system.

We also work with the anxiety that doesn't fit neatly into a category, the generalized, low-grade hum that colors everything without ever fully announcing itself.

What to Expect

Starting therapy can feel like its own source of anxiety. That's normal. Here's what it actually looks like.

  1. Your first session is a conversation, not an interrogation. We'll talk about what brought you here, what you're experiencing, and what you're hoping for. There's no pressure to have it all figured out. You don't need a diagnosis. You don't need to be in crisis. You just need to be tired of anxiety running the show.

  2. From there, we build a plan together based on your needs, your goals, and what resonates with you. Some clients start with grounding and stabilization before going deeper. Others are ready to dive into the roots right away. We follow your pace.

Sessions are available in-office at our Cincinnati location or virtually across Ohio and Kentucky.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Individual sessions at Lumenso Wellness range from $125 to $175 depending on your provider. We are an out-of-network practice and can provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement. For more details, visit our Rates and Payment page.

  • We are out-of-network with all insurance providers. Many clients receive partial reimbursement through their insurance's out-of-network benefits. We are happy to provide a superbill so you can pursue reimbursement directly with your insurer.

  •  It depends on you, your history, your goals, and what you're working through. Some people begin to feel meaningful relief within a few months. Others, especially those whose anxiety is rooted in earlier life experiences, choose to go deeper over a longer period. We check in regularly and adjust together.

  •  Stress tends to be tied to something specific, a deadline, a conflict, a situation. Anxiety often persists even when there's no identifiable cause, or it attaches to things that objectively feel manageable but internally feel enormous. If your stress response feels out of proportion to what's happening, or if it never fully turns off, therapy may help.

  •  Anxiety isn't something that gets cured like an infection. But it can be understood deeply enough that it stops controlling your life. Many of our clients reach a point where anxiety is still present sometimes, because it's a normal human emotion, but it no longer runs the show. That shift is real, and it's possible.

  • At Lumenso, we tailor our approach specifically to what you're dealing with. If anxiety is the primary concern, we draw from modalities that are particularly effective for anxiety work: IFS, ACT, EMDR, Jungian approaches, and mindfulness-based practices, rather than a generic talk therapy model.
